A Discussion on the Holocaust:
Brockport, N.Y., 1985

by David Polizzi

They debate for days,
months, years:
where will we lay
this wreath?

Treblinka?

We must be
willing to confess
all our sins
or none of them.

The earth grows
weary from the weight
of memorials, while

slabs of marble
sit in dusty rooms
waiting...

People stand
over ancient graves,
while the dead
beg us
to turn around.
