And of course I had my personal helpers and leaders. Jason Meagher, who goes on to now to be the managing editor of Evergreen, was always present, but in the background keeping the home office functioning.
My very own guide, leader and interpreter of my sometimes hard to understand objectives, especially as I had to let them define themselves in their own good time, was and is Astrid Myers. She had to bear the brunt of contrary actions, continuously re-arranging things as plans changed. She defused all the danger points which I opened up, and made it possible to achieve harmony on the team. No small feat.
Now on to Evergreen Review itself - carrying forward the same spirit and concepts it always had. Now we have the great advantage of that potentially marvelous democratizing world lying out there in cyberspace. There are a lot of good people out there in the new world of interconnetedness making infinity a habitable space. We need to learn from them. There were many literary journals preceding Evergreen Review, making the way possible, allowing us to carve out our own niches. Now we can be nurtured by our past and take our place in the new universe of cyberspace already populated by many beacons of light. We ask only to assume our own station and to beam out our own voices. We will.
