WHERE IT ALL BEGAN : THE LANDING IN CUBA By Che Guevara
Ernesto "Che" Guevara was born on June 14, 1928 in Argentina. After travelling extensively, Che arrived in Guatemala, where he became involved in the occuring revolution. Labeled a dangerous communist, he became a refuge and two months later left for Mexico. In Mexico he met up with Fidel Castro who convinced him to join in the Cuban Revolution. Che fought in Cuba for three years (1956-1959) until the revolutionaries won the war. He stayed in Cuba and eventually became a Cuban citizen working under Castro. Cuba's dealings with the Soviet Union, China, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Korea and the German Democratic Republic increased and in January, 1961, the United States broke its tie with Cuba and Castro declared that Cuba would become a socialist country. Che travelled to Africa and eventually Bolivia where, under the auspices of new revolution he was caught, and finally, murdered on October 9th, 1967.
